AIB introduces fraud prevention text alerts

AIB has introduced a new fraud prevention text alert system for customers. AIB will send a text message to customers if the bank suspects fraudulent activity on the customer’s debit or credit card.

The text message will ask the customer to confirm the transaction. The customer will be asked to answer via text confirming with a ‘Y’ or a ‘N’ if the transaction is genuine. AIB will then take action based on the customer’s response. A response text message will then be sent to the customer from AIB.

The service is available on AIB debit and credit cards from this week. AIB will never ask customers to send personal information via text message.

Maria Doyle, of AIB Card Strategy Implementation said: “New fraud text alerts will keep our customers updated and help our battle against fraud. From September, new SMS fraud text alerts on credit and debit cards will complement the more traditional methods we have for contacting customers.
“We continuously monitor credit and debit card transactions for any unusual or suspicious activity. With the introduction of the text alerts; we have the capability to contact our customers
immediately 24 hours a day and react quickly to stop fraud activity.”

If a person has recently changed their number they can contact AIB on 0818 724 724 or 01 7712424 and AIB will change their phone number on the system.
