Essentia Analytics today announced the appointment of Greg Wallace, equities and quant specialist and Founder of EQ International, as its Head of Research and James Ramirez, formerly of Barclays Wealth and Investment Management, as CTO.

Greg Wallace brings over 25 years’ experience in the Australian investment market, having held numerous Director-level quant and equities-based roles in companies including EQ International, Credit Suisse and BZW. In his new role at Essentia, Wallace will focus on delivering valuable, actionable insights to end users, from illustrations of behavioural biases, to investment process analytics.

On his appointment, Wallace commented: “Having spent more than two decades in the world of professional investment, it’s an honour to drive the use of Essentia’s ground-breaking behavioural finance platform to improve fund managers’ investment processes.

'There’s a real desire for Essentia’s product in the industry, as investors look for innovative ways to improve their decision making and reach new levels of excellence. I’m delighted to join the team and look forward to helping even more investors achieve their potential.” He added.

Before joining Essentia, James Ramirez spent fifteen years as a technologist with Barclays, primarily working in its investment banking and wealth management businesses, as well as contributing to technology governance and strategy across the Barclays Group. He has worked in London and Singapore, and has a track record of building high performance teams across geographies and time zones.

Over his career Ramirez has built and designed multiple client-facing systems for Barclays, ensuring they can scale to multiple releases per week in a regulated environment, together with running the Back and Middle Office technology platform for its Asia futures business and founding the Group’s mobile community of practice.

On his new role at Essentia, Ramirez commented: “I am thrilled to be joining Essentia Analytics at such an exciting time in its growth. It is rare to find a company with both a vibrant entrepreneurial spirit and an outstanding, highly-qualified technical team, and I feel privileged to be able to lead Essentia’s technological development as it reaches ever greater adoption rates worldwide.”

Clare Flynn Levy, founder and CEO of Essentia, added: “James brings to Essentia entrepreneurial thinking combined with best-practice professional standards and vast experience in building and leading global financial technology teams. Greg combines a great amount of experience and influence in the investment world with knowledge of what it really takes to improve performance and processes. Essentia has reached a new phase of rapid growth, and James and Greg are just the people to take us forward.”

The appointments come after Essentia Analytics has expanded its global reach to include operations in Singapore and New York, and follow a number of recent awards from CIO Magazine, the Hedge Fund Journal and WatersTechnology.
