Verifone, a leading global provider of payment and commerce enablement technology and services, has partnered with payworks to offer mobile point of sale (mPOS).
The two companies provide a joint product package based on Verifone’s E Series of terminal devices, enabling acquirers and network service providers (NSPs) to offer their retail merchants an easy-to-integrate mPOS solution. This solution is available in Germany, and a roll-out into other regions is in preparation.
With the new product, acquirers and NSPs can offer Verifone E Series devices alongside their traditional terminal offering and provide retailers, electronic cash register (ECR) software providers and other system integrators with a fast and easy way to add secure card payments into their in-store mPOS solutions running on smartphones and tablets.
Built for use in the mPOS retail environment, Verifone E Series terminals can serve a variety of use cases where they give retailers and their staff increased mobility and flexibility in their stores for a true mobile check-out experience. An integrated 2D-barcode scanner and the ability to physically attach to a variety of tablets allows Verifone’s E Series of devices to be used as part of a fully integrated mobile ECR-system.
payworks runs a payment platform for developers, enabling providers of mPOS applications to easily integrate payment terminals into their apps via payworks’ mPOS software development kit (SDK). In the past, the company has been mainly focused on powering innovators that build mPOS solutions for the SME space in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). The partnership between Verifone and payworks now brings this technology to larger retail merchants.
The certified payworks SDK lets integrators talk to Verifone devices without getting into the scope of PCI, making it very easy to use the devices in any POS app. payworks can plug into any acquiring gateway, providing acquirers with a powerful tool to extend their capabilities for retailers. Multinational and global retailers can work with payworks directly, optimizing their acquiring mix and leveraging opportunities arising from recent multilateral interchange fee regulations.
“Verifone and payworks have a common goal: Supporting retailers and merchants in meeting the rapidly evolving needs of an increasingly mobile retail environment, enabling commerce from anywhere inside or outside the store,” says Markus Hövekamp, General Manager of Verifone Germany. “Our E Series solutions provide a new level of consumer interaction that empowers a sales person to truly engage customers for a better shopping experience. Instead of carrying a separate payment acceptance device, they can utilize the versatility of a smartphone or tablet for convenient, fast and safe electronic payments.”
“It has always been our goal to lower the entry barrier for innovators at the point of sale,” says Christian Deger, CEO of payworks. “With our partnership with Verifone we are now taking mPOS technology to the retail space, paving the way for a great set of mobile check-out solutions, including assisted selling and queue busting setups.”
