UL’s Aspects test tool portfolio is designed to test mobile handsets and SIM/USIM cards against industry standards. It can also be used to test mobile payments and other NFC applications. The Aspects test tools and test suites are part of the Aspects tool box and the new release of this tool box includes many new functionalities. You can now analyze your applications for mobile payments (including issuance of American Express and Discover) and transit ticketing (including MIFARE DESFire and MIFARE Classic).

“We are pleased to launch new releases of our Aspects product portfolio. We support mobile network operators and service providers such as banks, retailers and transit operators to define and test their newest innovations with our tools. Whether an NFC handset, UICC, mobile payment or transit application, UL is there to safeguard security, compliance and global interoperability of your implementation,” comments Maxim Dyachenko, Manager Service Line Test Tools at UL Transaction Security.

The Aspects Spy is a comprehensive and easy-to-use tool that translates and visualizes communication between handsets and SIM/USIM cards or contactless readers. The new release includes new mobile payment translations for American Express ExpressPay and Discover Contactless D-PAS besides the existing Visa payWave and MasterCard PayPass translations. It also includes MIFARE DESFire and MIFARE Classic translations to test mobile transit ticketing applications and other MIFARE card implementations. The new translations and improved views make Aspects Spy the essential tool for anyone in the mobile (payments) industry. You can analyze the communication between mobile handsets and SIM/USIM cards including translation of over-the-air card management commands.

The Aspects tool box supports 4G, 3G and GSM card test tools that are used to define and test card profiles as well as application management on the card including mobile payment applications. The Aspects Card Test Platform is for testing applications on a UICC: the behavior, the data stored in files and the protocol handling. The new features support simulation of remote application management with cards supporting GlobalPlatform SCP81 and live translation of APDUs with Aspects Spy for trouble shooting. The Aspects Card Profile Tester on the other hand compares a real (U)SIM profile against a predefined profile and generates a report showing differences in the file system, GlobalPlatform registry status and card characteristics. Combining these tools with the Aspects Spy provides a mobile payment application issuer the essential test tools to simulate and test the correct issuance of the payment application.
