Bacs sets new daily transaction record

A huge 99.3 million transactions were processed by Bacs Payment Schemes Limited (Bacs) in a single day in February 2015, setting a new record - that's the equivalent of 6.4 million payments an hour, or over 106,000 every single minute the processing window was open.

The record breaking day, at the very end of February, saw almost 87million Direct Debits, and over 12 million Bacs Direct Credits passing through the system.

The new high surpasses the previous record of 98.6 million set in November last year and comes on the back of a record-breaking 2014, which saw a number of new records set, including the total number of transactions processed (just short of six billion).

Bacs CEO, Michael Chambers, said: "This new record yet again highlights just how popular our products are. This is the third year running that we've broken our own peak day processing record and comes after we processed nearly six billion items in 2014, an all-time high."
