Wincor Nixdorf has further developed its modular POS line using cutting-edge technologies: For example, the new BEETLE /M-III is equipped with Intel's fourth generation of Core processors (Haswell technology).
Through the processors' performance, coupled with high-speed main memory modules, users can clearly feel just how powerful the overall system actually is. Wincor Nixdorf is the first POS vendor to use Intel's Haswell technology in its modular systems. Various processors covering a wide performance range allow the system to be adapted to the changing requirements in the retail industry.
"As a result, the new BEETLE /M-III systems are ready to meet all the requirements of the multimedia age," says Winfried Nolte, product manager for POS systems at Wincor Nixdorf. For example, up to three displays can be connected to additionally provide customers at the checkout with information or details of cross-selling offers. A host of PC and retail-specific powered interfaces are available to connect further peripherals.
Despite their higher performance, the processors consume less power than those of the previous generation. In developing its POS systems, Wincor Nixdorf has for years leveraged every technical possibility for minimizing power consumption. In the case of the BEETLE /M-III, this includes newly developed power supply units that have a constant energy efficiency of at least 87 percent and comply with the stringent 80 PLUS Gold environmental initiative. Together with the processors, power consumption and carbon emissions are thus cut further, which in turn reduces operating costs and is kinder to the environment.
The new BEETLE /M-III POS systems also boast advances in terms of system availability and ease of use: To enable simple replacement of storage media, the drives are built into a removable bay and can be accessed from the front. The fact that data can be stored identically on multiple media, coupled with the system's high performance, also makes the BEETLE /M-III suitable as a back-office server.
Fewer moving parts help increase system availability. This is also enhanced by the new PanelLink2 interface, which enables the touch screen to be connected by means of a single-cable solution. The cable supplies the screen with power and, among other things, transfers video data and touch information.
The risk of system failures is also minimized thanks to proactive monitoring of the motherboard, hard disk and fan. Intel Active Management Technology (AMT 9.0.) is also supported, allowing reliable remote maintenance and monitoring, even if the device is switched off. Like all BEETLE systems, the BEETLE M-III is also particularly resistant to interference from electrostatic discharge and spurious radiation. Moreover, the POS systems are designed to run in environments with higher temperatures.
The lower number of vulnerable components and the remote monitoring function ensure maximum resilience in Wincor Nixdorf's new BEETLE M-III POS systems. That and the lower power consumption provide retailers with a new POS platform that unites maximum performance with minimum total cost of ownership (TCO).
