Citizens Financial Group, Inc. today announced two new Bank Better™ enhancements that expand mobile banking functionality for Citizens Bank and Charter One customers - mobile check deposits and fast account balances.
Both enhancements use industry-leading technology designed to deliver increased customer convenience.
CFG's mobile check deposits capture check images using a mobile device's video camera. Because there is no need to tap a button - which can cause blurry or incomplete images and frustrating retakes - depositing checks is quick and simple. The bank's new Fast Balance™ feature makes it simple and easy for on-the-go customers to view account balances without needing to log into their mobile banking app for iPhone and Android. CFG is one of the first banks to offer customers this convenient solution.

Mobile check deposits
The check image is captured using the mobile device's video camera and leverages built-in components to provide real-time feedback to the customer. The Citizens Bank and Charter One Mobile Banking App proactively instructs the customer to make needed corrections like holding the device steady, turning on the flash or getting closer to or pulling back from the check. Once all conditions are met, the video camera automatically takes the picture.
Between May 31 and August 1, the bank's Double Your Deposit in a Snap! Sweepstakes will award the mobile deposit - up to $500 - each week for five customers, for a total of 45 winners over nine weeks. Winners will be announced on the bank's Facebook pages. Must be 18+. The new mobile deposit for business feature rounds out CFG's suite of convenient products for businesses interested in depositing checks remotely. For customers with higher check and dollar volumes, the bank offers E-Z Deposit® and accessMOBILE®.
With just a tap and hold gesture on the Mobile Banking app home screen, a customer can quickly view account balances for personal checking, savings and money market accounts using their iPhone or Android. Detailed account information is not displayed. The tap and hold gesture allows customers to view balances within the application without changing the main screen of the app, something that no other competitor to date has offered.
These new features join recent Bank Better enhancements, including:
One Deposit Checking, where just one deposit each statement period - of any amount - waives the monthly maintenance fee.
Protecting customers from overdraft fees for transactions of $5 or less, with the bank's signature innovation, $5 Overdraft Pass™.
State-of-the-art ATMs so customers can make ATM deposits as late as 10 p.m. local time on a business day and still have the deposits count as "today."
