Clinkle Corporation, a startup working to modernize how people transact, today announced the appointment of Josh Brewer as vice president of design.

Clinkle's fifth senior-level hire since October, Brewer joins the company with over 10 years of design experience. He will be responsible for leading the design team and focused primarily on product.

Most recently, Brewer served as the principal designer at Twitter. In this role, he worked on a number of key design initiatives, including the redesign of Twitter across mobile, web, and tablet, and was focused mainly on product. In 2012, Fast Company named Brewer one of "50 Designers Shaping the Future."

Prior to Twitter, Brewer was director of user experience at Socialcast, an enterprise social network, which was acquired by VMWare in 2011. Earlier, he held creative positions at SuggestionBox.com and Slacker. In his spare time, Brewer has created a number of free tools for the benefit of the web design community, including 52WeeksofUX and Ffffallback. He is also an advisor at The Designer Fund.

"Not only does Josh bring a great deal of design expertise to Clinkle, but he has a strong understanding of technology and strategy that makes his skill set unique," said Clinkle's CEO Lucas Duplan. "He will be an incredible asset to Clinkle as we focus on building a product that delights our customers."

"When I look at things we do every day that mobile will transform, nothing stands out like payments, and Clinkle is poised to be a leader in the space," said Brewer. "Like me, Clinkle believes that engineering and design are two sides of the same coin. This philosophy, along with Clinkle's technology, team, and vision, make it an irresistible opportunity. I'm excited to be joining Clinkle, particularly during this period of forward momentum."

Brewer's appointment further delivers on the company's commitment to building a deep and talented senior leadership team. In October of 2013, the company named Barry McCarthy, the former chief financial officer of Netflix, as chief operating officer, and subsequently named Andy Rendich as chief service and operational officer, Allison Hopkins as chief talent officer, and Mike Liberatore as chief financial officer.
