Belgium's bpost Bank rolls out Sopra-designed mobile app

Bpost bank, a joint venture between BNP Paribas Fortis and bpost, the Belgian postal operator, has recently launched a mobile banking app designed and implemented by Sopra Banking Software.

Sopra Banking has been bpost bank's core banking system partner continuously for almost 20 years. The mobile platform went live on January 20.

As a logical consequence of its core banking modernization program, bpost bank realized that it wanted to offer its customers a mobile banking app for smartphones and tablets. Beyond being part of the wave of banks adopting mobile banking, the app was also strategic for a long-standing customer segment familiar with tablets but distrustful of traditional pc banking. bpost bank found a full end-to-end solution with Sopra Banking Software.

"Having enjoyed a partnership with Sopra Banking Software for almost two decades, we were glad to work with them once again," says Piet Van Petegem, CIO at bpost bank. "The app and connector they offered was not only the most logical choice, it was also the most flexible choice, with lots of freedom for extra configurations and all the functionalities we wanted."

Sopra Banking Software designed versions of the mobile banking app for smartphones and tablets, and for several operating systems. It allows customers to make financial transactions without requiring a login through the traditional pc banking channels, and makes it possible to switch between accounts easily. "For example, all members of the same family can use the same app securely to make their own personal transactions," comments Mr. Van Petegem.

"We enjoyed collaborating closely with the people from Sopra Banking Software. They were intimately familiar with our needs because they worked straight with the business end of our operations, and brought in the natural expertise that comes with such a long and fruitful partnership," concludes Mr. Van Petegem.
