Morpho (Safran) today announced that it will be the EMV* card supplier to Metrobank Card Corporation (MCC), one of the largest credit card issuers in the Philippines. Morpho will deliver nearly half a million EMV MasterCard- and VISA-branded credit cards to MCC.

Morpho will provide the contact modules for its highly secure, global platform-compliant EMV product with a Java operating system, JMV Pro. The solution enables card issuers such as MCC to migrate their magnetic stripe cards to the more secure EMV chip card.

"For MCC, this is the premiere of migrating from magnetic stripe cards to EMV chip cards," said Harry Gue, MCC Head of Operations. "We can benefit from Morpho's extensive global experience in the EMV payment area, as they have supported reputable banks in their respective EMV migration strategies. Their flexibility and their innovative technology are also huge advantages for us. Therefore, we are very happy to have Morpho as our supplier."

Anthony Ong, Senior Vice President Sales Asia Pacific at Morpho, e-Documents Division added: "With the EMV cards supplied to MCC, Morpho has strengthened its position in the Philippines. This alliance is also a huge step for our development in the Asia Pacific region as we are already supplying to two large local banks in this area."

* EMV (Europay, MasterCard and VISA) is becoming the global standard in the migration from magnetic stripe cards to chip-based cards. EMV is an interoperability standard developed by the three financial institutions to ensure that all Europay, MasterCard, and VISA-branded smart cards and all smart card-reading POS terminals and ATMs work together to deliver the highest level of security.
