Fortinet - the pioneer and market leader of Unified Threat Management and only provider of ASIC-accelerated, network-based antivirus firewall systems for real-time network protection - today announced that Caisse Populaires du Manitoba, a Canadian based financial institution, has deployed Fortinet's FortiGate systems to protect its network of more than 30,000 members, over 250 employees, and spanning 30 branch office sites with remote users, from harmful network threats such as data privacy theft, viruses, pharming, phishing, and more.
As a financial institution servicing its members with a variety of online and computer-based transaction-based products and services, Caisse Populaires du Manitoba was looking for a robust security solution to protect its multi-platform enterprise and extended enterprise of remote offices and workers. The company evaluated products from leading security vendors and chose Fortinet based on its ability to demonstrate a clear capital investment and operational value proposition through its full-featured, scalable product line that offers best of breed security applications including stateful firewall, antivirus, VPN, intrusion prevention, Web content filtering, antispam and traffic shaping.
"The Fortinet solution scales to meet our wide ranging internal and external network security needs from the datacenter to our branch offices while providing the same comprehensive functionality across all products. This allowed us to implement a full end-to-end cost effective network security platform, with a critical eye towards minimizing unnecessary capital expenditures, tools from numerous vendors and burdensome administration," said Bernie Marcoux, director of Information Technology for Caisse Populaires du Manitoba. "With Fortinet's FortiGate systems, we are securing traffic for thousands of customers' data, hundreds of employees across 30 sites as well as remote workers."
Enterprise Security Appliances for the Finance Vertical
With a mixture of Windows, UNIX and Linux systems in Caisse Populaires' enterprise delivering critical business applications such as banking systems and transaction processors, Fortinet demonstrated a clear value proposition with a product line that easily scales through Caisse Populaires' entire enterprise, data center and extended enterprise, including remote office locations and employees.
Caisse Populaires deployed Fortinet's enterprise-class FortiGate-500 and mid-range FortiGate-200 security appliances to provide complete content security for its headquarters and datacenter. Additionally, FortiGate-60 small/medium business (SMB) security appliances are deployed for content protection at each branch location with an automated teller machine (ATM). The ASIC-accelerated FortiGate systems' VPN throughput is highly performant, which is important in ensuring minimal network lag for Caisse Populaires' heavily used network.
"The financial industry continues to provide some of the most challenging security related issues for both the institution and its valuable users," said Adam Stein, vice president of corporate marketing for Fortinet. "We are proud to provide Caisse Populaires du Manitoba with the best of breed enterprise security expertise necessary to eliminate dangerous threats from entering its network while preserving its mission critical applications, member identities and valuable transaction data."
