VeriFone Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: PAY) today announces that it has completed a fast-track Chip and PIN migration for leading UK travel company Thomas Cook, with the EMV pre-approved Ocius solution from Commidea.

The Ocius solution for Thomas Cook – based on VeriFone's Omni 3750 and SC 5000 secure consumer-facing device, with HSBC as the acquirer – has delivered a fast and secure upgrade to the Chip and PIN mandate for 600 high street locations across the UK and Ireland.

The Ocius solution has been specifically developed by card payment processing system provider Commidea to enable retailers to achieve full Chip and PIN certification with minimal investment of time and money. Ocius is IP-enabled for fast, secure transactions and caters for all of Thomas Cook's transaction requirements for both travel purchases and foreign exchange in all its 600 branches across the UK.

Peter Chaffe, Foreign Exchange Operations Manager for Thomas Cook, said, "Our Travel Agency distribution network is the second largest in the UK, so we needed to deploy a Chip and PIN solution very quickly, and with minimal interruption to operations. VeriFone and Commidea delivered a solution that allowed us to complete our rollout smoothly and very speedily, beating our original target by some margin."

Commenting on today's announcement, Nigel Bidmead, EMEA Managing Director for VeriFone said, "The Ocius solution, based on VeriFone payment technology, removes the time, cost and certification barriers that can be associated with Chip and PIN migration. This successful project demonstrates once again how big-name retailers are turning to VeriFone to deliver the benefits of a fast, secure and user-friendly payment solution."

Ocius provides an 'out-of-the-box' Chip and PIN upgrade solution for retailers, based on VeriFone's Omni 3600 mobile solution and on the modular Omni 3750, to which the SC 5000 secure consumer-facing device can be added when required. Ocius is currently under certification on VeriFone's new range of Vx Solutions products. The Ocius application has been designed to run on a range of VeriFone IP-enabled products and is capable of supporting Chip and PIN and/or signature verification.
