San Antonio, Texas-based River City FCU, with $145 million in assets and more than 16,000 members, has offered a mobile banking smartphone application from Malauzai since the summer of 2012. Originally chartered as San Antonio Telephone Employees FCU, the credit union serves a tech-savvy membership that quickly adopts new technologies, such as tablet devices.

In order to meet member demand and stay ahead of the competition in the local market, River City FCU worked with Malauzai to further its mobile offering and deploy a SmartApp for the iPad. Despite a highly customized look and feel, the project was completed in 17 business days. The credit union also chose to offer a mirrored Spanish version of the SmartApp to meet the needs of current members, as well as attract new ones. Malauzai's Smart Application Management System (SAMI) enables the company to work with institutions such as River City FCU to develop specialized features without taking the time normally required for that level of customization.

"Rather than just presenting a standard template of features, Malauzai allowed us to customize as much or as little as we felt comfortable with in order to fit the needs of our members," said Kim Heinze, president and CEO of River City FCU. "With a significant number of Spanish-speaking members, the ability to offer an app with the same capabilities in both English and Spanish has set us apart in a very competitive credit union market. To our knowledge, we are the only credit union in our market offering a Spanish-language mobile app. Our focus is always on our members, and we are proud to offer them a mobile tool they can't find anywhere else in the area."

"Demand for accessing data on a mobile device is increasing by the day," said Robb Gaynor, chief product officer of Malauzai. "We were able to work with River City FCU to offer an app that would meet the demand from its members and deliver a customized mobile banking experience on the larger tablet screen. The experience River City FCU members will have on the iPad app is a unique expansion of mobile banking capabilities rather than simply a replication of a smartphone app."
