Premier Community CU installs Diebold branch share ATMs

Diebold, Incorporated (DBD) and CO-OP Financial Services are bringing the convenient credit union shared branching model to the self-service channel.

Diebold is installing two new Opteva® automated teller machines (ATMs) featuring the CO-OP NextGen ATM shared branching solution at Premier Community Credit Union's new Lodi, Calif., branch. The solution enables members of participating CO-OP Shared Branching credit unions access to other credit union accounts or sub-accounts such as a CD or an IRA using Premier Community's ATMs. Standard ATMs can normally only access accounts linked to an ATM/debit card limiting most transactions to checking and savings accounts. The ATMs further enhance convenience with Diebold's deposit automation technology.

With the introduction of the CO-OP NextGen ATM solution enabled by the partnership by Diebold, Premier Community is one of the first credit unions to fully deploy shared branching at the ATM.

Based in Stockton, Calif., Premier Community serves residents and employees based in San Joaquin County, Calif. The credit union designed its new Lodi branch to offer enhanced efficiencies for members and non-members alike. The shared branch ATMs feature deposit automation technology, which allows members - and members of participating CO-OP Shared Branching credit unions - to complete envelope-free cash and check deposits. The ATMs automatically process deposited notes and checks, along with many other transactions, allowing Premier Community members more flexibility at a self-service device.

"CO-OP NextGen ATMs give us the opportunity to be at the forefront of delivering enhanced convenience and better services for not only our members, but members of other credit unions as well," said Paul Yang, president/chief executive officer, Premier Community Credit Union. "With deposit automation, we're introducing even greater convenience via a 24/7 channel for conducting efficient teller-like transactions."

As the industry's only shared branching solution for ATMs, CO-OP NextGen ATM offering helps credit unions extend their reach and deliver more of the convenience members expect from full-service financial institutions. Shared branch ATMs provide credit union members with additional options to conduct transactions through more locations and extended hours of operation. While Premier Community's shared branch ATMs are new terminals, credit unions can add shared branching to existing Diebold Opteva® ATMs.

"Driven by CO-OP, Diebold's shared branch ATM solution transitions routine shared branching transactions from the teller line to the low-cost self-service channel," said Mychal D. Kempt, vice president, North American operations, Diebold. "Doing so allows credit unions to migrate the servicing of shared branch members to the ATM, giving credit unions more time to spend on complex member transactions."

Premier Community is also enhancing security and efficiency at its Lodi branch with a Diebold Express Cash Recycler. The teller automation solution, which accepts cash, verifies note authenticity, sorts notes by denomination and reuses them for withdrawals, is shared between the branch's two counterless teller stations. Within the branch's open environment, the recycler also serves a security role, storing cash securely at the point of transaction.
