Viewpointe, a leading provider of electronic content and exchange solutions and services, today announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has issued United States Patent Number 8,320,635 to the company for its image quality invention.
The patent covers the proprietary technology, methodology and system to centrally monitor the quality of images of financial documents.
Viewpointe's latest patent offers financial institutions a way to monitor and evaluate the quality of images of financial documents stored for remote access. It also provides the capability for a centralized image storage facility to grant a responsible financial entity access to the images in order to make decisions based on the results of a quality analysis.
"This patent approval is a major milestone in Viewpointe's commitment to provide innovative exchange and settlement solutions to our customers," said William Shute, Viewpointe senior vice president, product. "Combining proprietary technology with our best-in-class exchange solutions, we are able to offer customers complete end-to-end check image clearing, settlement and risk management solutions that are truly unique in the industry."
The patent facilitates the process of institutions exchanging images in place of paper documents for monetary transactions (e.g., checks) by analyzing and identifying suspect images. Since the legislation of Check 21, financial institutions have been relying on image presentment and clearing. With large number of images stored, sent and received at remote locations (clearing agents and contractors) as well as by banks, analyzing the quality of images is imperative.
Viewpointe offers end-to-end check image exchange, clearing and settlement services for institutions of all sizes. Founded by financial institutions for financial institutions, Viewpointe helps organizations address their check clearing needs through its stable, secure and price-competitive image exchange network. In 2012, Viewpointe exchanged more than 3.7 billion items; our National Settlement System settled $6.2 trillion.
