Dimension Data, the US$5.8 billion global ICT solutions and services provider, has been chosen as the IT outsourcing partner for a major investment and financial services company in China.

Dimension Data will provide end-to-end IT operation, maintenance, helpdesk and end-user services for the back-end IT infrastructure of the company's new office in Beijing, China. The company will benefit from significant savings in running costs and physical space, and its investment is expected to pay for itself within six months of implementation.

The deal follows a number of successful hardware implementation, networking and maintenance projects for the company, which manages over US$130 billion in global investments for institutional clients that include foreign governments and central banks. By outsourcing its IT operations and management to Dimension Data under one service level agreement (SLA) and as its single point of contact, the client is able to free up its resources to focus on its core business and be assured that any incidents are managed swiftly and effectively.

"We're delighted to be taking on our first IT outsourcing project in China for such an important client," said Anthony Leung, Acting General Manager, Dimension Data China. "As we have worked together before, the client recognised Dimension Data as a tried-and-tested provider, and this new project reaffirms their confidence in our ability to deliver."

When the company approached Dimension Data to manage its IT operation, the client wanted a quick solution, but was unsure of its options, or the delivery model that would best suit its requirements. Dimension Data conducted a thorough audit of its needs and crafted a proposal that would fulfil the client's objectives, but also presented a powerful business case in terms of ROI.

As a result, the client has been able to shift capital expenditure related to hardware and software purchases and staff training to operating expenditure. It no longer needs to worry about scalability or IT compliance, and the new solution is also more sustainable than before, helping the company reduce the environmental impact of its operations.

"When we evaluated proposals from various vendors, it quickly became apparent to us that Dimension Data's solution made the most sense from a business perspective," noted the client. "As a financial services firm, many of our IT functions are absolutely mission-critical, and we needed to have total confidence in the provider we selected. As a result of positive experiences of working together in the past, we felt we could rely on Dimension Data. We have now been using their services for three months, and I'm pleased to say that our IT performance has improved and meets our expectations."
