The National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) selected BT, one of the world's leading providers of communications services and solutions, to connect its expanding network of regional and global operations.

Under the terms of the contract, BT will leverage its BT Connect portfolio of managed network services to link NBAD's centralised IT services from the data centre in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to its network of 12 international branches worldwide. Deployment of the new networking platform is part of the core banking centralisation project at the bank's headquarters in the UAE.

The deal comes on top of an earlier contract with NBAD for BT Radianz Cloud services at the bank's trading floor in the UAE. BT Radianz Cloud today connects thousands of locations around the world, making more than 3,000 applications from more than 400 providers available to traders in more than 170 countries.

The bank boasts one of the largest branch networks in the UAE, offering a range of banking services including retail, investment and Islamic banking services. NBAD's global operations cover four continents from the Far East to North America, giving it the largest global network among the banks in the UAE. Since 2009, NBAD has been consistently ranked one of the World's 50 Safest Banks by the prestigious 'Global Finance' magazine.

Kevin Taylor, president Asia, Middle East and Africa & president Global Logistics, said "The National Bank of Abu Dhabi is a customer with a great global pedigree and we are proud to have been chosen to run their regional and global networking infrastructure. This deal is a clear sign of the trust global financial players put in our expertise. It also further consolidates our position as the networked IT services provider of choice for financial institutions in the Middle East and beyond."

Hossam El Kobrosy, director, IT Infrastructure at NBAD, said "Already one of the leading banks in the UAE, NBAD's vision is to be the world's best Arab bank. To realize this vision we are committed to provide our customers with the best services, understand their needs, and dedicate all our energies to serving them. We want to continue to be the bank of choice for our customers around the world and the contract with BT will cement our position as a leading global bank with the best and most secure connectivity for our operations."
