Thyron Systems' POSMate Smart terminal has been incorporated into Payatrader's general release of the UK's first stand-alone pocket GPRS mobile payment device for the micro-merchant sector.

Unlike many solutions currently available, the well-anticipated new device does not require interaction with any mobile or SmartPhone and incorporates electronic receipting. It is the only terminal of its type live in the UK market.

Payatrader, the dedicated card acceptance solution for small businesses, will start the release with an initial deployment of 1,000 Thyron devices to their customer base.

Thyron's Managing Director Michael Ault commented: "We're excited to have worked closely with the Payatrader team to deliver this bespoke solution. The 'pay-as-you-go' charging model for transactions makes this solution ideally suited to the micro-merchant sector and the simple sign-up process allows merchants to begin accepting card payments within a matter of days. The Thyron terminal will enable Payatrader's merchants to benefit from a purpose-built mobile payments solution that offers a familiar experience for their customers to use."

Bill Thomson, Managing Director at Payatrader, added: "We selected Thyron Systems as our technology partner in this venture because its team offered genuine flexibility and proven mobile hardware and software capability having been in the mobile payments space for over 10 years. It was this experience, and Thyron's understanding of the mobile sector, that enabled us to efficiently evolve our business from an online, telephone and mobile based solution to include a secure Chip & Pin based face-to-face service. The Thyron team was very willing to work closely with us to develop a terminal that met the specific and specialist requirements of the Payatrader merchant base."

Other features of the new Payatrader service include; SMS receipting for the cardholder, direct interfacing with the existing Payatrader online portal, first-touch light activation and automatic standby mode.

The Payatrader solution has already been well received by the payments industry and is shortlisted in three categories at the respected Cards and Payments Awards, including 'Best Initiative in Mobile Payment', 'Best Technology Initiative of the Year' and 'Best Industry Innovation of the Year'.
