The appointment was made following a report by the Nomination and Remuneration Committee and at the request of the Chairman, and is conditional upon approval by the Spanish stock market regulator, the CNMV.

Javier Hernani Burzako holds a Degree in Economics and Business Administration from the Universidad Comercial de Deusto. He also holds a Master's Degree in European Studies - in the field of Economics, from the College of Europe, Bruges, Belgium and is a Financial Analyst at Instituto Español de Analistas Financieros.

Hernani is the Chief Financial Officer of BME and leads the economic and financial management of the BME Group. BME's financial department comprises the Comptroler, Investor Relations, Risk Management, Treasury, Tax and Procurement areas. He is a member of the group's Coordination Committee and board member of the following BME subsidiaries: Market Data, BME Innova and Infobolsa.

Prior to this, he worked as Adviser in the European financial sector at Coopers & Lybrand Brussels, CFO at NORBOLSA and Deputy Managing Director at the Bilbao Stock Exchange.
