St.George Bank has selected Teradata, a division of NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR), as its enterprise data warehouse partner, an upgrade decision that will integrate a number of new data sources to help the bank reduce information technology (IT) complexity and improve customer service at lower costs.

The rollout follows a six-month competitive evaluation process between Teradata and IBM. St.George also engaged BearingPoint to conduct an independent evaluation.

"By consolidating and simplifying our data warehousing platforms, we believe that considerable cost savings and operating efficiencies can be achieved across the company," said Gary Carter, general manager, IT relationships and group data warehouse, St.George. "With both operational and customer data stored in one central repository, the business can easily manage, access and analyse information for faster decision-making and improved customer service."

St.George has also acquired a new disaster recovery facility to support its enterprise data warehouse, facilitating greater access and protection of mission-critical information including customer relationship management, a Basel II Capital Accord risk solution and key operational and reporting data. The disaster recovery system and production warehouse became operational in late-April 2005.

Teradata will equip St.George with a four-node 5400H production system and a one-node 5400H disaster recovery system, part of the full enterprise data warehouse rollout. In addition, Teradata will provide St.George with professional services resources to support the integration of the Basel II solution.

"We are continually re-assessing and refining our data mining, analytical processing, CRM and marketing programs to ensure an improved experience for our customers," said Carter. "The analytics required to get this job right puts a great demand on our data warehousing and storage facilities. This, in conjunction with our compliance initiatives around Basel II, brought us to a point where we knew we needed an upgrade of existing systems. This was done using a proven platform that St.George has been using for some years."

"St.George's forward-thinking use of data warehousing capabilities will ensure that the right data gets to the right people quickly, so they can efficiently respond to opportunities and support business requirements," said Julian Beavis, Teradata vice president for Australia and New Zealand. "St.George is now one of our longest-standing clients in the Asia-Pacific region, and we are very proud that it has chosen Teradata to help with the next step in fortifying its information infrastructure."
