The patent number is 8,027,893 and is titled "News Induced Automated Electronic Securities Transactions".

In support of the axiom "News moves the markets", the underlying method of this patent describes automatic securities trading based on matches made to any number of pre-defined terms or phrases that are found in any structured or unstructured, real-time news or complex event content such as press releases, SEC filings, news articles, government data reports, message boards, social media sites, blogs, etc. Securities are defined as any tradable financial instruments including stocks, bonds, options, ADRs, contracts, etc.

"We are extremely pleased the PTO recognized the patentability of our ideas" said Steve Burrows, President of News Technologies. "We believe this and our other high-speed term matching patent (#7,277,887) will provide us the opportunity to open up a number of direct licensing arrangements with any number of companies in the financial or quantitative trading industry who want to utilize this form of analytics. Automated, algorithmic trading systems have become ubiquitous. By some estimates, more than 70% of all trading is now accomplished automatically. That makes our technology and intellectual property strategically advantageous."
