BT and TeleWare today announced the immediate availability of a network-based recording service for mobile devices, designed to help UK financial organisations meet new Financial Services Authority (FSA) call recording regulations, which come into effect on November 14, 2011.

The managed service will record and store mobile voice and SMS (short message service) traffic with no impact on the user call experience and without limiting the mobile's functionality. It can support any GCF (Global Certification Forum) certified mobile handset or operating system. Calls and texts to and from mobile phones are routed through, and recorded in, the BT/TeleWare cloud-based network service. As there is no need for any software to be installed on the mobile device, delays in call connections and potential circumvention of recordings are avoided.

The recording capability is easy to install, needing just a simple change of SIM (subscriber identification module) to a TeleWare SIM, to make the service instantly available. Compliance officers can use BT's secure, cloud-based delivery service and web interface to store, search and retrieve recorded calls rapidly.

Rik Turner, Senior Analyst Financial Services Technology, Ovum, said: "BT's experience as one of the largest suppliers of trading turrets means that its customers will look to BT to provide advice and guidance on the extension of the FSA's recording requirement to mobile devices. The mobile recording market is in the early stages of development and there is still a considerable lack of clarity regarding regulation, technology and costs. Customers genuinely need help in defining their requirements."

Andy Nicholson, president, global banking & financial markets, BT said: "The new FSA regulation will impact organisations across the whole of the financial services market. BT's legacy in the sector means that we're well placed to help our customers and our aim is to provide secure, easy to use, cost-effective solutions that address these and future regulatory requirements they might have. For example, our network-based approach for mobile device recording delivers unrivalled call connection speed and automated recording built-in which requires no additional user commands, onsite hardware or eve even third-party mobile software. We are committed to evolving our portfolio to support our customers' changing needs. "

Steve Haworth CEO , TeleWare Plc said: "We have a long standing relationship with BT and are pleased to be joining forces with them on this new, business-critical solution. BT's network capabilities and experience in trading communication will be invaluable in getting this solution out to the market."
