The Cheque and Credit Clearing Company (C&CCC) is pleased to announce today (1 August 2011) the appointment of Les Thwaites as its new Chairman.
Mr Thwaites has worked for the Co-operative Bank since 1972, where he has had extensive involvement in all elements of cheque processing and the management of the cheque processing operation. He has also served as a Director on the C&CCC Board and is consequently well aware of the current issues including the pressure to improve the cheque product to satisfy customer requirements and meet the wider demands for increased industry efficiency.
The outgoing Chairman, Willie Nicoll, has retired after six years in the role.
Regarding his appointment, Les Thwaites said: "I am delighted to have been selected as Chairman of the C&CCC Board. I have been closely involved in cheque processing throughout my career with the Co-operative Bank and look forward to bringing my experience to the role of Board Chairman.
The company faces an interesting period with many challenges, the chief of which is the continued maintenance of the integrity of the clearings in the face of declining volumes. My predecessor is widely respected in the industry and he will be missed, but I am proud to have been selected to take on the challenges and do so with enthusiasm for a subject which is dear to my heart."
