HKMEx announced on April 27, 2011 that it has received authorisation from the Securities and Futures Commission to operate as an automated trading services ("ATS") provider. Trading officially began on May 18, 2011.

HKMEx has been collaborating closely with Horizon Software to develop new gateways and provide a robust trading platform.

"Horizon Software's open and scalable architecture perfectly meets our members' business requirements while handling ultra-low latency and high throughput. This is an ideal choice to provide a state-of-the-art and future-proof electronic trading solution" said Barry Cheung, chairman of HKMEx.

Horizon Software provides global exchange and broker connectivity to a range of market players, from latency-sensitive financial institutions to market makers seeking high-throughput trading systems. Horizon Software's gateways offer unmatched performance with load balancing and throttling capabilities, while ensuring high reliability through failover management and advanced monitoring tools.

The Horizon Software suite is ready to be used out of the box and is based on a flexible architecture that enables customization to satisfy specific requirements.

"Horizon Software has been serving major financial institutions in Hong Kong for years. We are very pleased of this collaboration with the Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange since we share the same vision when it comes to providing the best trading experience" said Jean-Marc Delfarguiel, Founder and CEO of Horizon Software.
