Pointsec, the global leader and the provider of the de facto standard for enterprise security software for laptop and desktop PCs, PDAs and smartphones, today announced it will provide endpoint security technology for Swiss Re, one of the world's leading reinsurers and the world's largest life and health reinsurer.
During 2004, Pointsec for PC encryption technology has been delivered to protect data on more than 4,500 notebook personal computers for Swiss Re. In the event of theft or loss, Pointsec for PC ensures that the business critical data stored on the notebook remains private and secure.
Employees at Swiss Re's Zurich headquarters who frequently travel between home and different office locations are provided with a notebook PC. Swiss Re wanted to increase its protection in Windows XP, not allowing data to be accessed using easily available hacking software.
"With Swiss Re's flexible mobile working environment, before we started using Pointsec, we were increasingly faced with data security issues," said Fredi Schmid, executive project manager at Swiss Re. "Not only was Pointsec an ideal match for us with their proven experience in large deployments, but their unmatched pre-boot protection capability gave us the confidence that we were getting the most secure solution."
To date, about 2,000 laptops have been encrypted. In the next stage, the Pointsec solution will also be applied for encryption of USB memory sticks, diskettes and other removable media.
