Monitise partners Jetco on Hong Kong m-payments

Monitise, the leading global mobile money solutions provider, announces that its Asia Pacific joint venture has entered a partnership with Joint Electronic Teller Services Limited (Jetco), a payments business and leading network of ATMs in Hong Kong and Macau, to launch mobile commerce services.

Under the terms of the agreement, Monitise Asia Pacific and JETCO will launch a Mobile Prepaid Top-Up service in Hong Kong for mobile operators, providing prepaid customers with a new and more convenient way of paying securely via their mobile devices.

Monitise Group Chief Executive Alastair Lukies said: "Today's landmark agreement with JETCO marks an important milestone for Monitise as we grow our business into Asia Pacific. This partnership is an exciting step towards bringing mobile payments and shopping to Hong Kong, by connecting people with their existing bank accounts or cards, anytime, anywhere, via their mobile."

He added: "JETCO's experience will add enormously to Monitise as we seek to lead the world in mobile banking and payments capabilities. We'll also soon be announcing more updates regarding new partnerships and services in the mobile network operator space in Hong Kong."

JETCO runs more than 2,000 automated inter-bank teller machines in Hong Kong and Macau with more than 30 member banks including Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited, The Bank of East Asia Limited and Standard Chartered Bank.

Monitise Asia Pacific is a 50/50 joint venture with First Eastern Mobile Investments Ltd, part of the First Eastern Investment Group, created to develop mobile banking, payment and commerce services in the Asia Pacific region.

"Mobile plays an increasingly important role in how people can pay for goods and services. With around half of the SIM card mobile market in Hong Kong already on prepaid, we are delighted to be launching a real-time prepaid top-up service in collaboration with JETCO," said Monitise Hong Kong Managing Director Lam Wai Yee.

Monitise's approach to mobile ecosystems enables open access to financial institutions, payments processors, mobile network operators and merchants via a proven bank-grade security platform that is ideally suited to making mobile money services more convenient.

Monitise is developing its banking, payment and commerce services in Hong Kong using its Globe technology platform. This platform is already used by millions of consumers globally to securely interact with their money.
