The milestone coincides with the third anniversary of the system, which has become increasingly popular with intermediaries.

Since it was launched in February 2001, over 5,000 intermediaries have registered to use the service. In 2003, online completions reached £1.6 billion.

Online features include real time case tracking, automated decisions linked to credit scoring, and a bespoke service for intermediary partners and packagers.

With initiatives such as the ‘30 second decision in principle’ launched last October, Mortgage Express has continued to lead the market online.

Tim Sturley, head of business development at Mortgage Express, says: "This achievement demonstrates how important online services are to brokers. In an increasingly competitive environment, brokers are looking for fast, hassle-free processes that let them focus on selling. Our online facilities simplify mortgage application and processing, giving brokers a competitive edge’’.

‘‘We regularly review our online service to ensure we meet brokers’ needs. We will be making a major announcement in the near future about further enhancements to the system that will make brokers’ lives even easier’’ adds Sturley.
