Once a perk and now expected, mobile applications in today's financial arena are a must to attract and retain members especially the cell phone-laden younger generation. Knowing this mantra all too well, Georgia's Own Credit Union ($1.6 billion; 165,214 members; Atlanta, GA) has implemented technology provider Code Greens web, mobile web, and mobile app editions of its branch and ATM locator solution, BranchMap.

Together, these offerings allow the credit unions membership the convenience of literally banking when and where they want.

Initially targeted to just their website and to the mobile web, Georgias Own is now expanding the relationship to include an iPhone App, an Android App, and a Blackberry App via Code Greens new initiative branded: Credit Union Mobile.Leveraging joint venture with mobile solutions provider, WanderWorx, the Credit Union Mobile initiative aims to provide affordable custom mobile apps on all the major mobile platforms, targeted to the specific needs of credit unions.

Code Greens BranchMap Mobile locator enables anyone with a mobile phone to find all credit union locations anytime, anyplace. It also shows users a list of the credit unions nearest locations, including branches and ATMs, as well as shared branch locations and surcharge-free ATM network locations. Results include all the important details such as name, address, phone numbers, distance, hours, features, and turn-by-turn driving directions to get there easily.

Our goal is to provide unmatched service to our members that includes continuing to work on the ability to provide them the opportunity to bank when and where they want, states Kelly Garmon, Senior Vice President of Marketing/Sales and Service at Georgias Own Credit Union. As the popularity of smartphones has skyrocketed over the past several years, so has the demand for mobile banking apps and incorporating these apps from Code Green seemed a natural extension of our service platform.

According to Garmon, having a mobile banking app has gone from being a perk to now an expectation among consumers. As more and more competitors began to introduce apps, it became evident that the credit union would need to release one quickly and successfully not only to continue attracting new members but also to deliver on its promise of unmatched service to its current membership.

As for choosing Code Green: Aesthetically, we liked the layout of Code Greens BranchMap locator, she says. Functionally, we needed a solution that would show our members not only Georgias Own Credit Union locations, but also CU Service Center locations and the ATM network locations all in one. BranchMap made that possible for us in one, user-friendly platform that can be accessed via multiple channels.

Garmon sees now, more than ever, its mobile members increasingly on-the-go. Having reliable smartphone apps on multiple mobile platforms from their credit union will enable them to live life more seamlessly, more on their terms.

Not everyone is sitting in front of their desktop computer all day, says Jason Green, CEO of Code Green, developer of BranchMap.So we developed the BranchMap Mobile locator to extend convenience marketing for financial institutions like Georgias Own into the mobile world.

More importantly, he continues, most credit unions cant afford a kings ransom to develop and maintain mobile apps. So we created the Credit Union Mobile initiative to make custom credit union-targeted mobile apps affordable.
