Thomson appoints Michael Thompson as director of new research group

Thomson Financial, an operating unit of The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC) and leading provider of information and technology solutions to the worldwide financial community, today announced that it has formed a new research group responsible for coordinating research activities and media outreach and support across a wide range of world-class Thomson Financial content sets. Michael Thompson will join the company on March 15, 2004 as its director of research to lead these efforts across the organization, and will report to Sarah Dunn, chief content officer and executive vice president, Thomson Financial.

In his new role, Mr. Thompson will lead a group of experienced researchers who already work within Thomson Financial, including Craig Columbus who monitors corporate insider trading and governance issues, Jesse Reyes who focuses on the private equity and venture markets, and Richard Peterson who covers deals activity for the SDC content sets.

As part of these changes, Chuck Hill, director of research for First Call, will be leaving Thomson Financial. Joe Cooper, Thomson Financial's manager of quantitative research will continue to run the research analyst team for earnings estimates and will report to Mr. Thompson.

Mr. Thompson joins Thomson Financial from RiskMetrics Group where he served as the firm's market strategist. He is a regular contributor to the financial media. Prior to RiskMetrics Group, Mr. Thompson was co-president of BulldogResearch, a company he co-founded in 1999. Previous to that, he worked in private banking in Lehman Brothers' Private Client Services Group and J.P. Morgan Securities' Private Client Group. Thompson's career in finance began at Morgan Guaranty Trust, where he served as an analyst in the Commercial Finance Division.
