Betty DeVita named president, MasterCard Canada

MasterCard Worldwide today announced it has appointed Betty K. DeVita, president, MasterCard Canada.

DeVita will assume the role effective September 15, 2010. DeVita has been Chairman and CEO of Citibank Canada for the past three years accountable for the US$1.8 billion franchise and its 5000 employees across all lines of business. At MasterCard Canada, she will oversee regional strategy, business development, acceptance expansion, operations, regulatory, marketing and product introductions with a mandate for delivering continued growth and innovation in the market.

DeVita is a 28-year veteran of Citibank operations in North America, Latin America and Asia. In addition to leading Canadian operations, she was Country Business Manager and Senior Executive Vice President for Citibank Korea, Regional Business Executive for the Global Consumer Franchise in North Latin America including Venezuela, Columbia, Peru, Dominican Republic, Panama and the Bahamas, and held a variety of other management roles including starting with Citibank at the retail branch level in New York. She holds a B.S. from St. John's University, New York and the CEO Program Certificate from Wharton-KMA in Seoul, Korea. She has served as a member of the Executive Council of the Canadian Bankers Association and in 2009 was named one of Canada's Most Powerful Women by the Women's Executive Network. She recently earned the Institute of Corporate Directors certification at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto.

MasterCard is the fasting growing payments brand in Canada and over the past year has added new card issuers Royal Bank of Canada and CIBC.

DeVita succeeds Kevin Stanton who was earlier named president, MasterCard Advisors, the company's international professional services arm.
