Diebold names John Deignan chief marketing officer

Diebold, Incorporated (NYSE: DBD) today announced John M. Deignan has been named vice president and chief marketing officer (CMO), leading the company's global marketing and product management functions.

In this newly created role, Deignan is now responsible for all global financial self-service and security marketing activities, as well as the company's sales support group and its business consulting activities.

Deignan previously served in Diebold's North America sales organization as vice president, strategic accounts since 2003. In that role, he was responsible for accountability and leadership of the strategic accounts division within the United States, as well as some additional global strategic accounts outside the United States. He also served the company in several leadership capacities internationally, including managing director for The Diebold Company of Canada, Ltd., headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, and managing director for Diebold Australia Pty. Ltd., headquartered in Melbourne, Australia.

"John's leadership abilities will better align and integrate Diebold's global marketing and product management teams, and provide strong support for our sales organization as we work to grow the services component of our business globally," said Thomas W. Swidarski, Diebold president and chief executive officer. "John brings many years of global experience to this new position, particularly from our field operations where he had great success communicating the value of our financial self-service and security solutions and related services to our customers. We're confident that his ideas and creative approach will be vital as we develop market-driven programs that provide us with a competitive advantage."

Deignan started with Diebold in 1991 as a senior account manager in Chicago. He has a bachelor's degree in business economics from Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wis., and a master's degree in international business from Roosevelt University, Chicago.
