Morningstar (Nasdaq: MORN), a leading provider of independent investment research, has launched its latest free mobile application for the Apple iPhone or iPod Touch to help investors track their portfolios and stay on top of the markets while on the go.

The upgraded app's new features allow users to view performance charts for stocks, funds, exchange-traded funds and indexes; access the Morningstar Market Barometer(SM) and data on each of the Morningstar fund categories; and track the market indexes with current news articles and listings of gainers, losers and most actives. Users will also now have the ability to sync to, create, and edit their Morningstar.com portfolios and watch lists and research Canadian securities. Morningstar.com Premium subscribers can access Morningstar's independent analyst research reports through a subscriber log-in page.

Morningstar first launched its iPhone app in May with real-time quotes, investing ideas, company information and tickers, a quick search function, and the ability to view Morningstar's ratings for stocks and funds. In six months, approximately 45,000 people have downloaded Morningstar's mobile app.

Tailored specifically to the functionality of the iPhone and iPod Touch, the Morningstar mobile app allows users to tap arrows on the screen to access real-time quotes. Turning the device horizontally expands the view to a landscape of additional data points and information, and expands charts to show performance over extended time periods.

"We've added these new features and functionality after listening to feedback from iPhone users, who responded with overwhelming enthusiasm to our mobile app's initial release in May," said Kunal Kapoor, president of individual software at Morningstar. "These enhancements will help investors with a comprehensive application packaged specifically for their mobile device that provides anytime, anywhere access to the information and research they need."

Investors can download the app at no cost from the iPhone App Store.
