Barclays has updated its unique mobile phone banking site making it simpler, faster and easier for customers to do their banking whilst on the move.

Barclays customers visiting www.barclays.mobi can now view balances, mini-statements and make transfers between their accounts through a newly customised interface, developed specifically for viewing over a mobile phone.

Barclays mobile services have been developed to operate on all of the main mobile platforms, which means that all customers including those with Apple, HTC, Nokia, Motorolla, Blackberry etc mobiles can access these services.

Sean Gilchrist, Barclays Digital Banking Director, said: "The growth of consumers using our mobile banking services has been phenomenal this year as we have listened and developed core mobile banking services they have told us they need. We believe that this is due to Barclays taking the lead in the market with a dedicated mobile phone banking site. This is the most flexible way of evolving and delivering mobile services for all mobile customers, without restricting services to a single mobile device.

"It's important for Barclays to maintain and continue to develop an innovative mobile banking approach, to provide customers with a full banking service which is fast and easy to navigate regardless of what mobile phone they are using."

These improvements follow on from the recent enhancements 'branch and ATM locator' using maps that specifically fit mobile handsets, simplified log-in process and free mobile security software from Kaspesky. The next phase for Barclays mobile phone banking will be looking into developing the following services.

  • SMS (Short Message Service) where customers will also be able to register for SMS text services, such as asking for an account balance to be sent to their mobile phone, or an account statement.
  • Payments to third parties.
  • Top-up their mobile phone by using Online Banking.
