Telenor Pakistan and Tameer Microfinance Bank today announced the launch of easypaisa, a uniquely convenient and safe way for the people of Pakistan to carry out financial transactions.
easypaisa users will have the freedom to make bill payments and send and receive money at thousands of outlets and in addition manage their bank accounts over their mobile phones. easypaisa combines the best from the financial and mobile sectors, offering the first branchless banking solution of its kind in Pakistan.
"easypaisa will allow users across the board to access convenient and secure financial services. In an environment where only 12% of the adult population is formally served with financial services, easypaisa will promise tremendous financial empowerment", said Chief Executive Officer, Telenor Pakistan, Jon Eddy Abdullah.
"The Telenor Group strongly believes that financial services is an area where telecommunication can contribute in providing social and economic growth. The launch of easypaisa puts Telenor Pakistan and Tameer Microfinance Bank in the forefront of offering new innovative services that promise people empowerment and convenience in carrying out financial transactions", said Sigve Brekke, Executive Vice President of the Telenor Group, and Head of Telenor Asia. "We see a growing opportunity emerging in providing compelling financial services to our customers, as seen with the success of Dtac's ATM SIM service in Thailand and Grameenphone's Billpay service in Bangladesh."
