Owners, operators and deployers of ATM estates across Canada can now begin upgrading their terminals in line with the new Interac Association Chip requirements, after Calypso Canada was awarded certification for its Interac EMV Chip platform.

Calypso Canada, a Transaction Network Services (TNS) company, has also certified its first device for the EMV CHIP platform, the Triton RL2000, which is already active at more than 18,000 locations across the country.

Doug Epp, Senior Director of Sales for TNS Canada, said: "We're delighted to have successfully achieved these two important certifications. In order for Canada's ATM owners, operators and deployers to meet INTERAC's mandate of having 50% of non-deposit-taking ABMs upgraded by the end of 2010, the industry needs to move fast to ensure adequate lead time to allow for the purchase of equipment and properly co-ordinate the country-wide upgrade.

"Our CHIP platform is now certified and we're keen to build our portfolio of devices which can be used with this. We have a dedicated team ready to undertake this work as soon as the manufacturer upgrade kits become available. We are working closely with the ATM manufacturers to understand their timescales and ensure good coverage of devices for our customers, as the roll-out continues.

"This is an exciting time for the industry and we've been able to bring a lot of specialized learning and expertise to the table from our experience in Europe. Since obtaining the European EMV standard in 2004, we've migrated thousands of ATMs to CHIP technology and processed millions of CHIP transactions."

Calypso Canada worked closely with Triton and Moneris Solutions to complete the INTERAC certification process.

Shaun King, Triton Vice President of International Sales, said: "With this certification more than 18,000 Triton ATMs deployed in Canada will now benefit from Triton's upgrade path. Cardholders in the UK, where we've been doing EMV CHIP and PIN-certified transactions since 2004, have had peace of mind for years that their transactions were the most secure in the industry. We're pleased to now be able to provide this technology for consumers in Canada."

Brian Green, Senior Vice President, Marketing & Gateway Services at Moneris added: "Moneris is working with many financial institutions, retailers and ATM processors to enable EMV Chip technology. Calypso Canada has demonstrated a solid understanding of EMV requirements and the application to the Canadian marketplace. Their capabilities to implement an efficient certification process are a testament to their deep payments professionalism. We look forward to working with Calypso to meet the demands of the evolving Canadian payments landscape."

The INTERAC certification is the latest step in TNS' push to be one of the leading providers of secure, reliable services to ATM companies in North America and Europe. Calypso Canada has held PCI-DSS certification for its processing platform since 2007 and is listed on Visa USA's global list.

TNS' Calypso Canada business has many years experience delivering a wide range of premium ATM processing, communications and management services to the growing global ATM market.
