Marketcetera, the leader in open source platforms for automated trading, today announced Larry Stefonic has joined its advisory board.

With more than 19 years of experience in the computer software industry, he joins Marketcetera as a strategic advisor for open source platforms and business strategies. Stefonic most recently completed a seven-year tenure at MySQL AB where he drove dramatic business growth that ultimately led to the company's acquisition by Sun Microsystems in 2008.

"I'm excited to now be involved with Marketcetera. The company has a fantastic potential to be the ultimate leader in next generation trading systems, specifically because of its commitment to Open Source," said Larry. "Much like the case of MySQL, the Open Source model will support Marketcetera in out-developing, out-marketing, and out-selling its legacy competition."

As the leader in open source automated trading platforms for buy side and algorithmic traders, Marketcetera will look to Stefonic to provide strategic counsel on its open source development plans and overall business strategy. Aside from Linux, open source software is still fairly new to be adopted by the financial services industry. Stefonic's background in open source will provide added guidance as Marketcetera continues to disrupt the market for traditional proprietary platforms that have historically made software development slow, integration difficult, and innovative viral development nearly impossible.

"An agitator in a slow-to-innovate industry, Marketcetera has much to gain from Larry's host of new perspectives and open source experience," said Graham Miller, CEO. "His aggressive operational and growth perspectives, resulting from years of leadership with high-profile companies in compute-intensive industries, will help us move the needle for automated trading and open source in financial services."

Stefonic's executive roles at MySQL AB include serving as executive vice president of sales. Stefonic most recently ran MySQL's super-high-growth operations in the Asia-Pacific region. Prior to joining MySQL, Stefonic held senior management roles at Centure Software and Raima Corporation. He holds a Bachelor's of Science Engineering degree from Purdue University and is the co-founder of yaSSL, a leading provider of open source Internet security tools.
