Western Union appoints Jan Hillered as senior vice president Europe and CIS

Western Union, a global market leader in money transfer services, has appointed Jan Hillered as Senior Vice President, Europe and CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States), reporting to Hikmet Ersek who is Executive Vice President and Managing Director of Western Union's EMEA-APAC region.

Jan Hillered's organisation will span three sub-regions: Western Europe, Central Europe and Eastern Europe & CIS. The Western and Central Europe sub-regions will cover all European Union member states, while Eastern Europe & CIS will cover the remaining non-EU countries. With more than 115.000 Agent locations the region is covering about 30% of the Western Union agent network, contributing significantly to the global business.

Jan comments: "The new organisation will position us to deliver on our commitment to customers and stakeholders in 2009 and beyond. In particular, it better aligns us with our key markets and positions us to better address new opportunities for our business."

Previously, Jan was Western Union's Senior Vice President for Central and Eastern Europe, and CIS. Prior to joining Western Union Jan worked for 10 years for the Dutch ING group, holding a number of senior management positions. He also worked for 10 years at Nordbanken, first at the Headquarters in Sweden and later at Nordbanken Hong Kong Branch.

Jan studied at the University of Uppsala, Sweden and the Université de Caen, France. He is a Swedish national and is fluent in Swedish, English, French and German.
