Attachmate Corporation today announced that Irish Life & Permanent Group (IL&P), one of Ireland's largest and most successful financial organizations and the market leader in the provision of life, pension and investment products, has successfully deployed Attachmate DATABridge to effectively reduce resource requirements and minimize the usage costs on the company's Unisys platforms for Permanent TSB, its retail banking business.

Attachmate DATABridge is a comprehensive Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) solution that integrates critical information for business intelligence (BI) analysis. It extracts and transforms MCP host data for improved decision support and real-time data analysis.

The successful DATABridge deployment had an immediate impact on the company's ability to replicate data, and clone key banking systems. Since integrating Attachmate DATABridge, IL&P has reduced mainframe resource requirements and usage, offloaded various MIS reporting functions from the mainframe environment, and managed its security initiatives, using multiple relational databases including Oracle and SQL.

"Once we saw a demo of DATABridge, we were impressed with how it could be used to quickly improve our operations," explained Paul Coakley, team leader, Unisys operations and technical support for Irish Life & Permanent. "Having a cost-effective way to clone DMSII data was critical to us, and DATABridge Enterprise Server made the process much more efficient by cutting replication time from days to a matter of hours. We expect savings of between €150K and €200K over the life of the Unisys metered license contract," Coakley said.

"When it comes to financial institutions, it's critical to keep sensitive information secure and up-to-date without any downtime to ensure customer satisfaction," said Barbara Ballard, product manager for Attachmate. "Attachmate DATABridge synchronizes secondary databases by replicating only changed data resulting in cost-effective data transfer and reduced host system overhead."

Following the success of the initial DATABridge implementation, the organization is looking to partner with Attachmate for several other initiatives, including anti-fraud enhancements and improving business intelligence through real-time data replication.

Coakley also praised Attachmate's customer service. "We had excellent support from Attachmate onsite and over the phone to help us through issues during the initial replication process," Coakley noted. "Attachmate provided us with extremely good customer service. We turned everything around in a relatively short amount of time - it was just unbelievable."
