Sybase 365, a subsidiary of Sybase (NYSE: SY), the global leader in mobile messaging services, today announced a partnership agreement with paybox, a leader in mobile payment solutions, that will extend mobile payments and mobile money services to customers worldwide.

This agreement furthers Sybase 365's global mCommerce footprint that today includes remote mobile payments (via premium SMS billed to the operators phone bill) and mobile banking services. Now, financial institutions, mobile operators and merchants will be able to easily offer their customers various mobile payment services, including payments for goods and services, money transfer and mobile airtime top-up.

"paybox's vision for mobile commerce fits well with our business objectives," said Matthew Talbot, vice president, mCommerce, Sybase 365. "paybox and Sybase 365 will offer solutions for mobile payments and person-to-person money transfer targeted at both emerging and developed markets."

paybox's mobile payment software - Mobiliser Portfolio - recognized as one of the broadest on the market - will leverage Sybase 365's integrated mobile messaging services and unrivalled global reach to more than 700 mobile operators and 3 billion subscribers, offering customers an open mobile payment infrastructure standard

"This agreement is a natural progression of where the market is headed and what customers are demanding from their mobile phones," said Eckhard Ortwein, CEO paybox. "By combining mobile messaging and mobile payments offerings, Sybase 365 and paybox are establishing a global standard for mobile commerce services."
