Exponential-e, the Next-Generation Network provider of low-latency services to the financial industry, and Equinix (Nasdaq: EQIX), the leading global provider of network-neutral datacentres and Internet exchange services, announced today that Exponential-e has joined the Equinix Financial eXchange by deploying their strategic connectivity operations at the Equinix London-Slough (LD4) Internet Business Exchange (IBX) data centre.
As a part of the agreement, Exponential-e will also connect to the Equinix Financial eXchange communities operating in Equinix centres in the Frankfurt, New York and Chicago areas.
Equinix Financial eXchange is a community of common interest, consisting of capital market participants such as execution venues, buy and sell side firms, market data providers, technology utilities and network service providers, that locate operations within Equinix data centres in order to implement a high-performance, low latency connectivity infrastructure within a neutral environment. At Equinix, these customers can directly exchange data within the same physical location with strategic partners, customers and vendors, providing solutions for their multi-network connectivity and high-performance data center needs. Launched in 2003, Equinix Financial eXchange now extends to hundreds of members and is available in Equinix IBX datacentres located in the London, Paris, Frankfurt, Chicago and New York areas.
Exponential-e's ultra-high speed connectivity is provided over fibre with a switched layer-2 Ethernet interface making it simple-to-use, scalable and on average 20% less expensive than its leased line counterparts. With no single point of failure, it provides a strong connectivity solution to the multiple sources of liquidity that are integral to the best execution rules under MiFID. The NGN infrastructure also supports IT chiefs' wider aims for business continuity and virtualisation.
Today's announcement will allow Exponential-e to offer enhanced direct market access for its customers by expanding connectivity to the aggregation of financial companies operating at Equinix datacentres in the London, Frankfurt, New York and Chicago areas. Exponential-e will provide customers hosted on its Financial Markets service creation platform (FM-SCP) with secure, scalable and easy access to the range of services and connectivity offered through the Equinix Financiaal eXchange community. For those customers already connected to the Exponential-e FM-SCP, a secure VLAN can be created to any member of the Equinix Financial eXchange community within days.
Commenting on the deal, Lee Wade, Managing Director, Exponential-e said: "The Equinix Financial eXchange community is the industry's hub for global interconnection. Simple, zero-hop connections between banks and trading venues within the facility can now be extended globally using the single hop switched characteristics of Exponential-e's Ethernet network. MiFID-compliant ultra-low latency is the result."
Russell Poole, UK General Manager for Equinix added, "We are delighted to welcome Exponential-e and its extensive customer base to our Equinix Financial eXchange community. Each of our members brings significant added value to the community, and we believe that Exponential-e will significantly strengthen the network connectivity options available to our members."
