Vanguard Networks upgrades software

Vanguard Networks Applications Ware 7.1 software release provides major new functionality with enhanced voice and performance benefits and many additional security and routing features for Financial Service Providers and Enterprise users.

Applications Ware 7.1 allows Financial Service Providers (FSP) to incorporate their existing ATMs into faster, lower cost IP networks without any change at the ATM or at the Host application. Data Centers can be simplified by eliminating extra routers and serial termination equipment, without compromising current and anticipated future levels of ATM services.

BSC-IP Conversion and Trunking Gateway Two Key Features of Release 7.1

The new Vanguard BSC to IP (VBIP) protocol conversion feature included in Applications Ware 7.1 allows ATM operators to protect their investment in existing ATM devices running IBM BCS 3270 protocols. There are more than 300,000 ATMs around the globe currently operating this way. This new 3270 to Internet Protocol (IP) conversion feature enables ATMs to become IP nodes with the ability to send status and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMPv3) information to a Data Center, allowing FSPs to use a single, lower cost IP network.

Applications Ware 7.1 also features a new Trunking Gateway feature that combines functionality of two devices (Router and Time Division Multiplexer [TDM]) into a single integrated platform solution from Vanguard Networks, reducing acquisition and maintenance costs.

For example, the Vanguard Networks 3460 Access Services Gateway (ASG) integrates this capability at a price point and footprint suitable for branch offices while providing the same Applications Ware 7.1 software to migrate customers from TDM voice and private TDM telco lines to voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) as well as IP/Multiple Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) -- the integrated data transport protocol of the future.

Value and Growth

"Maximizing profitability for existing ATM networks must include complete interoperability in multivendor environments," advised Rudi Willems, President, Vanguard Networks. "Global customers can achieve the best value from their existing networks by taking a 'best of breed' approach that consolidates multiple devices to reduce costs and guarantee migration to an all-IP environment."

Small Branches Protected with Network Security Services

For small sites the company has included in this new Applications Ware 7.1 release a complete suite of security services: IPSEC virtual private network (VPN), Secure Shell (SSH) and encryption that helps these customers avoid buying a separate VPN or firewall appliance.
