Northern Trust has appointed Eric Pouwels as Managing Director of its Dutch office, in Amsterdam, with responsibility for overseeing Northern Trust's activities in The Netherlands.
In addition, Wim van Ooijen has been named head of asset servicing client relationship management for the region.
Mr. Pouwels joined Northern Trust in 2005, and has over 11 years' industry experience. Prior to his new role, he was business development manager for Northern Trust's asset servicing activities in the Dutch market.
"Our clients' requirements are constantly evolving, reflecting the increased sophistication of the financial and regulatory environment in The Netherlands," says Mr. Pouwels. "Specifically, we have seen our clients using more Over the Counter ("OTC") derivatives, as well as an increased interest in asset pooling through the Dutch pooling vehicle, the Fonds voor Gemene Rekening ("FGR"). We are also seeing pension funds moving towards fiduciary management structures. Northern Trust continues to support these Dutch market developments through innovation and product development, combined with the highest levels of client service."
Northern Trust opened its Amsterdam office in March 2006. It has also recently joined the Holland Financial Centre -- formed to promote the role of The Netherlands as an internationally attractive and strong financial centre.
In his new role, Wim van Ooijen, who joined Northern Trust in 2004, is responsible for overseeing and developing Northern Trust's relationships with its Dutch asset servicing clients. He has been promoted to manage the team of service professionals for Dutch clients based in Amsterdam, working closely with the London-based client account managers. Previously, Mr. van Ooijen was a senior relationship manager for Northern Trust's Dutch asset servicing client base.
