HP (NYSE:HPQ) HP today announced that it has successfully assisted Rolfe & Nolan, one of the world's leading specialist software providers for the global listed derivatives industry, in migrating its flagship product, Merlin, to a Red Hat platform on HP ProLiant Servers.
Merlin is a next generation modular processing solution that is platform independent, standards-based and cross-asset capable. Its architecture is a culmination of extensive trading workflow analysis, industry input, and detailed technical design. Merlin provides a broad range of key business functions to the financial markets, such as commission calculation, margin calculation and exchange connectivity. Merlin modules provide best-of-breed functionality and operate seamlessly with the Merlin architecture to provide efficient, real time, exception-based trade processing.
HP's work with Rolfe & Nolan, which consisted of providing all the hardware for the test environment and extensive technical support during the migration process, means that Merlin is now available on an Industry Standard Server and Open Source platforms for the very first time. Rolfe & Nolan customers will now be able to enjoy the increased performance, reliability and scalability offered by the combination of Linux on an established and market leading platform.
Ian Rutherford, Merlin Project Director, Rolfe & Nolan said: "Every company wants the most reliable technology possible. With financial companies it is imperative, which is why we looked to HP to provide systems and technical expertise to assist us with migrating Merlin to Linux. Through extending the range of supported platforms we have already increased sales into our key markets. Rolfe & Nolan is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and has relied on HP products since its inception. The Linux project is just the most recent manifestation of the positive relationship that we have enjoyed and continue to enjoy with HP."
Russell Coombes, UK Linux Business Manager said, "The financial industry has been increasingly interested in the range of benefits that Linux offers. HP was delighted to help Rolfe & Nolan to extend its offering to give customers those benefits - all on an Industry Standard Platform." He continued, "Introducing Linux as a supported platform for Merlin has already resulted in increased sales to its target market of global investment banks, brokers and exchanges."
