Deutsche Asset Management hires Thiagarajan to head quantitative research centre

Deutsche Bank's Asset Management (DeAM) division today announced the appointment of Ramu Thiagarajan as Head of its Quantitative Research Center, where he will be responsible for identifying investment trends, conducting advanced research, and implementing new investment ideas and solutions for our clients.

In addition, Ramu will lead a new Global Quantitative Equity team and will be joined by two additional hires, researchers Yufeng Liu and Jiho Han. The new hires will be based in San Francisco, and Ramu will report to Janet Campagna and Leon Christianakis who head the Quantitative Strategies Group.

Before joining DeAM, Thiagarajan was a Principal and Head of Quantitative Strategies at Pequot Capital Management in San Francisco, CA. While at Pequot Capital, he developed and launched global market neutral equity strategies, and worked with fundamental portfolio managers in providing quantitative insights as well as enriching the quantitative process with fundamental research. Prior to Pequot, Thiagarajan was a Managing Director, Equity Portfolio Management for Mellon Capital Management Corporation, based in San Francisco, CA. In this position, he was the head of active equity strategies, managing long-only, long-short as well as portable alpha strategies. A former professor of accounting at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management, Thiagarajan holds a Masters in Accounting at the University of Champaign-Urbana and a Ph.D. in Business Administration at the University of Florida.

Yufeng Liu joins Deutsche Asset Management from Pequot Capital Management, where he was a Vice-President and research analyst. Yufeng designed and implemented the initial model software system for stock selection. He earned a Ph.D. in Physics and an M.S. in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA and a B.S. in Physics from Peking University in Beijing, China.

Jiho Han joins Deutsche Asset Management from Pequot Capital Management, where he was an associate for Global Market Neutral Strategy Fund covering global equity markets. Han holds a B.A. in Economics, Statistics and Applied Mathematics from the University of California at Berkeley.
