LSE's finance director Jonathan Howell quits

The London Stock Exchange announces today that Jonathan Howell, its Finance Director, is to leave the Company to become Finance Director of Close Brothers Group.

Jonathan has been with the Exchange for over 11 years and on the Board for eight years. He is expected to leave the Exchange at the end of January 2008.

Chris Gibson-Smith, the Exchange's Chairman, commented: "Jonathan has been instrumental in the delivery of exceptionally strong shareholder value, developing the Exchange's financial strategy and putting it to the forefront of the sector for balance sheet efficiency. We wish him well in his new role at Close Bros."

Clara Furse, the Exchange's Chief Executive, added: "Jonathan has played a central role in the Exchange's transition from mutual organisation to highly successful public company. Having worked with him for over six years, I will miss his sound financial, commercial and strategic judgement."

An external search for Jonathan's successor is underway.
