The facts that Wincor Nixdorf can offer its services in all 28 countries where Metro Cash & Carry has a presence, and can additionally optimally support future regional expansion plans for the Cash & Carry sales channel, were deciding factors in Metro Group's decision.
The order consists of around 6500 POS systems with their corresponding peripherals as well as service for the systems. In 2000, Metro had already opted for Wincor Nixdorf to supply software for its stores. In the future this software, which is being operated by Metro internally under the name of MPOS, will run on all the POS systems in the 28 countries in which Cash & Carry operates.
The installation of the new systems is part of a plan to drive forward the harmonization and standardization of the hardware and software. The provision of hardware and software from a single source will additionally minimize the expense of integration and operation. In October 2007, Wincor Nixdorf will begin to operate the system in Italy. After installation, Wincor Nixdorf will take over hardware and software maintenance.
