Cognotec to open data centre in Chicago

Cognotec, the award-winning provider of web-based institutional and retail foreign exchange trading solutions, has today announced it is to locate its new datacentre in downtown Chicago.

This strategic decision is the result of a co-location deal with web services provider Steadfast Networks and will mean that Cognotec's web service are hosted in the same location as the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME). Additionally, the decision ensures that Cognotec's clients will benefit from extremely low latency levels and superior availability.

The datacentre is one of the best-connected and secure facilities of its kind in the world. Extensive power back-up (including battery back-up and diesel generators on site) and dozens of available networks are supported by tight physical security controlling access to the building.

In addition, the low incidence of environmental disruptions such as hurricanes, tornados and floods in the Chicago area reduces the risk of outages due to natural events.

Commenting on the announcement Michael Begley, Cognotec's Head of IT Services said, "This announcement signals to our clients that their operations are supported by the best technical infrastructure available today - a fact supported by the presence of the CME. Most of the physical connectivity between the East and West coasts goes through Chicago, which means the city offers ample network capacity and millisecond response times for Cognotec users all over the US."
