BATS Trading Inc. announced today the promotion of Chris Isaacson to chief operating officer, effective immediately. Mr. Isaacson replaces Joe Ratterman, who was named president and chief executive of BATS July 1, and will report to Mr. Ratterman.

Mr. Isaacson was previously vice president in charge of operations and has been with BATS since its incorporation in June 2005. He previously managed the trade desk at BATS and, as a developer, was instrumental in the architecture and implementation of the BATS platform.

"Chris has played a critical role in BATS' growth since joining us as a founding employee in 2005, and we are very excited to announce his promotion," Mr. Ratterman said. "From day one, he has demonstrated the ability to execute at a high level, and we fully expect his great knowledge of our system and our subscribers to continue to pay great dividends."

Mr. Isaacson began his career as a software engineer at Cerner Corp., the publicly traded healthcare information systems supplier based in Kansas City. He holds a degree in computer science and business from Nebraska Wesleyan University, as well as a master's degree in business administration from the University of Nebraska.

BATS averaged daily volume of nearly 338 million shares in June, touching about 12% of the Nasdaq-listed market, 6% of the Amex market, and 2% of the NYSE market.
