You're waiting in the checkout line and suddenly remember that you don't know if the check you deposited has cleared yet. There's no ATM in sight. Do you risk getting hit with the fees? Now you don't have to. You can check your balance from your cell phone and transfer funds instantly, if you need to, all before the cashier rings up your first purchase.

Dollar Bank announced today that it is the first bank in the region to offer text message banking. Customers can now send a text message at any time to Dollar Bank requesting their account balance as well as send a text message to transfer funds instantly between their Dollar Bank accounts. They can also have their checking or savings account balance automatically sent to any text- enabled cell phone at a recurring frequency throughout the week and at any hour.

"It's the easiest way to manage your money while you're on the move," explained Jeffrey Morrow, Executive Vice President. "Since account numbers or customer information don't appear on your cell phone's screen," said Morrow, "this transaction is absolutely safe. And Dollar Bank's text message banking will work with any cell phone carrier."

Dollar Bank officials hope to make the most of the growing popularity of text messaging. Industry publication Cellular News recently reported that more than 158 million text messages were sent in the U.S. last year, a 95% increase over 2005.

Dollar Bank Online Banking customers will be the first to take advantage of text message banking and as an introductory offer, Dollar Bank is providing its text message banking service free of charge until January 2008. After which, there will be a nominal fee. For more information, visit dollarbank.com/tmb.
