Expanding its Enterprise Services Center offering, Harland Financial Solutions has partnered with EVault to provide secure online backup and recovery services.

EVault is a wholly owned subsidiary of Seagate Technology (NYSE:STX).

Using the protected hardware and environment of Harland Financial Solutions' Enterprise Services Center and the EVault InfoStage disk-to-disk data protection software, financial institutions can securely back up and recover business-critical data online, while also maintaining compliance, thereby eliminating the need for tape backups. Safe and off-site, the encrypted data is available online at any time for immediate, user-initiated recovery.

The customizable Data Storage Solutions work seamlessly in the financial institution's infrastructure, and no additional hardware is required. Once configured, no manual intervention is needed. Backup data is transferred immediately off-site via the Internet or existing private networks to Harland Financial Solutions' Enterprise Services Center. Before transfer, backup data is encrypted and remains that way until it is restored to the client computer. Only the individual who created the password can access the backup data.

"This automated process, coupled with detailed reporting, gives regulators a clear view of the chain of custody of stored information and enables financial institutions to meet regulations governing electronic storage and access to confidential data," said Mike Retherford, vice president of outsourced services for the Credit Union Core Systems Group at Harland Financial Solutions.

By leveraging the Internet or the financial institution's existing network, Harland Financial Solutions enables administrators to manage multiple online backup and recovery processes from a single workstation via a secure Web browser.

"Just as customers entrust their financial assets with financial institutions, these same institutions can trust Harland Financial Solutions to ensure their information assets are always accessible, protected and regulatory compliant," said William da Cunha, vice president of alliances for EVault, Inc. "Backing up data is an essential business practice, and equally important is the ability to quickly and reliably restore it in case of a disaster. Harland Financial Solutions' Data Storage Solutions powered by EVault affords financial institutions the highest levels of peace of mind."

Since the Data Storage Solutions take a point-in-time backup during each scheduled session, in the event of a disaster, the exact data from any previous backup is recovered, ensuring complete system integrity when restoring multiple files or an entire server and at the same time improving recovery time objectives (RTO). Data is always available and online for immediate restore without additional administrator intervention. Using the reporting system, end-users can quickly access storage-related information about the backup and recovery process.
